The 2022 Clone 8 is a small production estate blend built around Cabernet Sauvignon from our Estate vineyards in southern Dry Creek Valley. The final wine combines 83% Cabernet Sauvignon from two individual Cabernet lots with 17% Merlot from our Tasting Room Block. The Cabernet was harvested September 13, 2022, at 27.3° Brix from estate Blocks 6 & 7.
The Cabernet Sauvignon lots were fermented separately with BDX yeast and underwent malolactic fermentation before aging. French oak barrels were used, with approximately 33% new, for a period of 20 months. Following élevage, individual lots were evaluated and selected for the final Clone 8 blend. In July 2024, the two Cabernet lots were blended with a barrel of Merlot, creating a final composition of approximately 83% Cabernet Sauvignon and 17% Merlot. The completed blend was given final adjustments, filtered and prepared for bottling. Total production was just 144 cases.

Upon tasting the Clone 8 is vibrant and mouthwatering, it’s natural acidity cuts across palate while moderate tannins create a wonderful balance. 20 months of barrel aging lends layers of clove, vanilla, and delicate toffee, adding depth and warmth to the wine’s profile.
