Vitruvius (~80 BCE - 15 BCE), an eminent Roman architect and engineer from the 1st century BCE, is renowned for his monumental work "De Architectura." This comprehensive treatise on architecture not only delves into Roman building techniques, materials, and principles but is also significant for its recording of various engineering marvels of the era. Among these, Vitruvius documented the reverse overshot waterwheel, a groundbreaking mechanism used to lift water from below, particularly beneficial for extracting water from mines or underground sources. His description in "De Architectura" is believed to be the first recorded account of this ingenious device, showcasing the technological prowess of the Romans.
We are very excited to announce our inaugural vintage of our red blend "Vitruvius". The grapes for this wine consist of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petite Verdot, and Malbec... all from our Estate Dry Creek Vineyard.
The 2021 Vitruvius unveils a deep, vibrant ruby color, giving way to a rich aroma dominated by ripe dark fruits, with pronounced hints of plum, cherry, and currant. On the palate, this splendid blend offers a delightful tapestry of flavors: luscious ripe cherry, vivid red fruit undertones, and a distinct presence of red currant. The journey culminates in a finish characterized by both sweet and tart cherry nuances. With its moderate-plus acidity and balanced tannins, this medium-bodied wine is a symphony of flavors that pairs masterfully with dishes like coffee-rubbed pork chop and hearty Beef Stroganoff, making it a sought-after choice for discerning palates.
