Winemaker's Notes

Our 2019 Merlot was grown on the Kreck estate in southern Alexander Valley. Western facing, gentle sloping vineyards provide warm summer heat which evolves into berries with bold Merlot characteristics. The grapes were hand-picked in the cool early morning, transported to our winery in Dry Creek Valley and then sorted. The clusters were de-stemmed and fermented using BDX yeast in stainless steel after a 4-day cold soak.  During  fermentation, the wine was pumped over 2 to 3 times per day. Following fermentation, the wine was aged in French oak (40% new) for 18 months before being bottled.

Tasting Notes

The 2019 Merlot entices the senses with an alluring bouquet of ripe plum and luscious vanilla, infused by its aging in small oak barrels. The palate reveals bold and complex flavors of juicy plum, decadent chocolate, and sweet candied cherries, all of which harmonize beautifully. The finish is remarkably long and satisfying, with robust tannins that provide excellent structure and support to the lingering flavors.

This wine is built to last, poised to age gracefully for many years to come. With time, it will reveal even greater nuance and complexity, making it an excellent choice for the collector and the connoisseur alike. Savor it now, or hold onto it to enjoy its evolving character in the years to come. This wine pairs beautifully with grilled red meats or roasted game dishes, but it also stands up well on its own.
