Grape Source: The grapes for this wine are sourced from Matt Kreek’s vineyard which is located on the Lytton Bench area of Dry Creek Valley. This is a hillside area of Dry Creek Valley, located on Lytton Springs Road, which is particularly known for Zinfandel imparting lush ripe wine and spice characteristics. Matt is the cousin of winemaker, Jeremy Kreck, and the son of Bob Kreck who was one of the three who started Mill Creek Vineyards in 1974.
Winemaking: After harvest, the grape clusters are gently de-stemmed and then filled into stainless steel tanks. Preceding the fermentation is a 4-day cold soak. The must is then inoculated with yeast then mixed three times per day to extract flavors, color and tannin from the skins. After pressing the new wine is filled into 25% new Hungarian oak barrels and aged about 18 months.
Winemaker Notes: Mixed dark fruits blend with anise, vanilla and considerable spice. A significant initial burst precedes a lush middle and a long lingering finish.
